This blog is where I keep my programming notes.
Programming notes are well suited to Markdown and a static blog: Markdown is easy to write, and the resulting pages are pleasant to read. Math notes, by contrast, are usually better written in LaTeX.
Personal blogs may feel somewhat outdated in the age of mobile internet, let alone in the age of AI. A self-hosted blog is unlikely to attract much traffic, and even traditional search engines now seem to be giving way to large language models. Still, platforms such as CNBlogs, CSDN, Zhihu, and Xiaohongshu all come with content moderation and, in my view, less-than-ideal community environments. In the end, maintaining my own static blog is simply less of a hassle.
I first started experimenting with blogging back in 2022. At the time, I hosted the site on a Tencent Cloud server, registered the domain fenglielie.top, and completed the required ICP filing.
Over the next few years, the blog gradually picked up some traffic and was indexed by search engines. Later, for various reasons—including a few posts that failed content review—I decided not to renew the domain and also canceled the ICP filing.
Recently, I once again found myself wanting a blog as a convenient place to keep and organize my notes. So I switched to a new domain, fenglielie.space, and now host the site directly on Cloudflare. Access from mainland China may be less reliable, but this setup comes with far fewer administrative hassles.
